Neonatal Resuscitation
I) First, Confirm that NRP Essentials will work for you
With the new, 8th edition the NRP Class is now offering two options: NRP Essentials and NRP Advanced.
I am offering NRP Essentials since that has proven to be the appropriate choice for the students I serve since January 1st. If this choice is best for you I look forward to seeing you in class.
For more information on how to decide which NRP class to take scroll down to question # 9 on the FAQ page of this website.
II) There Are Two Parts To the NRP (NNR) Class You Will Be Taking.
Both parts will be based on the current, 8th edition NRP textbook and will need to be completed to earn your NRP electronic card or eCard.
Overview of the NRP Class Process:
1) ONLINE ASSIGNMENTS
You will register and pay for access to the online components on the NRP RQI website. The payment is made to them for their providing the NRP 8th edition online activities including the online exam and eCard. The online assignments are to be completed before attending the Skills Class.
2) SKILLS CLASS
You will register on this website for the in-person NRP Essentials Skills Class which I teach. Attending and completing a live skills class is required for earning an AHA/AAP NRP card. This class is also referred to as the 'Instructor Led Event'.

A) The NRP RQI Online Assignments
Cost
The NRP online assignments have a separate charge paid to RQI. Recently it was $45.
Since a recent clarification provided by NARM most home birth and free-standing birth center midwives and other personnel are choosing to take the NRP Essentials option. The Texas midiwifery licensure providers have also confirmed that remewing midwives and midwifery students can take NRP Essentials. See the FAQ page on this website, # 9 for more details.
Students will complete all the online components of the program, including the Online Learning Assessment (Adaptive eLearning). These online components will assess and verify your foundational knowledge of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program Essentials Provider curriculum.
The online components no longer include the eSims (electronic simulations)
It is important to get the NPR Essentials online work completed before the Skills Class date. It's completion is required in order to be admitted into the Skills Class.
More specifically, I'm having students finish it 10 days before our class date.
Don't be concerned about the online work expiring. Once you complete the online work and access your certificate of completion you have 90 days to take your Skills Class. So, if a birth or other circumstances prevents you from taking the class you originally intended to there is margin to find another class.
B) The Skills Class:
Upon completion of the online activities, students will be registered for an NRP ESSENTIALS instructor led event that offers the opportunity to learn or review essential resuscitation skills and participate in scenarios and debriefing. I will register you into RQI registration for your card once you are finished with your online work.
Passing all assignments is required for issuance of an NRP Essentials Provider eCard.

Also, throughout the class consideration is given to how neonatal resuscitation can most effectively performed at births taking place at home, in birthing centers or otherwise providing support and care outside of an institution.

C) How to Prepare for the 8th Edition NRP Essentials Skills Class
1) Go to the registration page of this website. Select a class date and register. This begins the process of holding your place in class and enables you to receive relevant communications.
2) Initially, read Lessons 1 - 4 of the new, 8th edition text and take the practice tests.
3) While reading your NRP text set up an account with RQI the provider of our NRP online learning activities and e-Cards if you don't already have an account. This should be done as soon as possible and ideally during the week since others have reported delays and occasional computer glitches in the process.

4) Next, the online portion of the NRP requirements is to be completed three days before your Skills Class date. See your class notice for details.
5) Once the Learning Activities in Part 1 are completed you will earn a certificate of completion (COC). I do not need to have a copy of this for NRP since I can confirm that the online work is completed on the RQI website.
If you have questions or run into any issues regarding the NRP online material or accessing your eCard after completion of the online activities, my skills class and the final online evaluation for RQI Partners you can call the support number for RQI, the service provider: 866-293-0574. It's open from 7 AM - 7 PM, CST M - F.
Or e-mail RQI Partners at: [email protected]
6) In order to get your card you must be registered into the RQI System for the Instructor Led Event (the Skills Class) after you have completed the Learning Activities, Part 1 (the online work). It is necessary to be entered into this system in order to be eligible to receive your e-Card after completing the Instructor Led Event and the final online evaluation once everything is processed.
7) After completing steps 1 - 6 the be sure and read Lesson 6 as that information that will also be covered in the skills class.
8) Successfully complete the 8th Edition NRP Essentials in-person, Skills Class.
Once all of the above steps are completed all the steps of your paperwork and your payment will be confirmed. Then you can be "passed" and are eligible to receive an NRP eCard from NRP/RQI system.
At that point, you can check back to your RQI page where you have done all your learning activities. When you have been passed your class a button will unlock a required RQI NNR online survey. The survey seems to be the most frequent step that gets missed so be sure to get it done. Completing the online survey is apparently what will release your NRP eCard to you.
Submitting the online evaluation unlocks access to your NRP e-Card to view or e-mail. Your NRP e-Card will be available to you for the next 2 years until it expires.
So, you will never need to purchase a replacement for a lost NRP card. Just access a replacement eCard from your RQI page.
I hope this page has been helpful.
Looking forward to seeing you in a class soon!
